Mayor Downs: Fireworks are "go"

Du Quoin Mayor Josh Downs (Posted to Facebook on July 3) After a conference call this morning with the fireworks promoter, Chief Durkota and Fair Manager Josh Gross, it has been determined that tomorrow nights fireworks can go on as planned! The rains that we received the last few days were crucial in this decision being made. In addition to that, the promoter and fire department have a good plan in place should anything arise during the show. As Mayor, I place my full confidence in Chief Durkota and his judgment and he has assured me he is confident in allowing the show to go on. There will be a concert put on by Keenan M Rice’s band at 7 PM at the employee campground as well as food trucks on hand. Also, by popular demand, we have 4 porta potties spread out in the area where many people park to watch the fireworks. I hope everyone comes out to enjoy the free concert, food trucks and fireworks starting at approximately 9 PM. I wish everyone a safe and Happy 4th of July!!
